ATiernan Oliver

Tiernan is an Assistant Solicitor with Donnelly & Kinder in the Employment Department. 


Tiernán joined the Employment Department of Donnelly & Kinder in 2023. He graduated with a degree in Law with French from Queen’s University, Belfast and thereafter attended the Institute of Professional Legal Studies at Queen's University, Belfast, where he qualified as a solicitor in 2016. 


Tiernán then went on to complete a Masters in Criminal Justice at Queen’s University where he obtained a commendation for his dissertation on ‘Cross-Border Policing’.


Before joining Donnelly & Kinder, Tiernán worked as an employment law practitioner in a large employment law practice in Belfast, specialising in sensitive employment law cases  to include, unfair dismissal, redundancy, equal pay and all forms of discrimination. 


Tiernán also advised on a variation of non-contentious matters including the provision of legal advice to businesses in respect of their internal policies and procedures. 


He is an accomplished advocate, having dealt with cases before the Industrial Tribunal, the County Court and the High Court; often involving matters of a complex nature.


At present, Tiernán advises and represents private and trade union clients and is responsible for delivering training courses to union officials on employment law matters so that they can effectively represent their members should they be involved in a workplace dispute.


Tiernán is a member of the Northern Ireland Young Solicitors’ Association, and the Employment Lawyers Group NI. 


Tiernán is a fluent Irish and French speaker and a keen sportsman who holds a Commonwealth medal for rowing and was previously voted Armagh’s sportsman of the year.
